Our Programs and Departments

Program participants can expect to learn an array of lifelong interpersonal and career level

skills that include but are not limited to the following: Life skills, character development,

effective communication, relationship building, importance of teamwork, application

development, and computer essentials.

This program will teach program participants the fundamentals of carpentry and wood

craft. Participants will be taken on local campus tours to explore wood works

departments and have access to information on collegiate and vocational outlook from

professors and students at that technical university.

The purpose of this department will be the musical development of program participants

in a band-like fashion (horns and drums) ultimately participating in community events,

showcases, and regional contests.

This course is an introduction to Python programming where students will learn the

basics of computer science and programming languages at a high level and learn how to use the Python programming language to create console programs.

This department will teach students the fundamentals of marketing and advertising

through hands-on teaching and completion of projects utilizing a number of the most

current software programs and applications.

This department is responsible for the safe transportation of program participants to and

from mentoring sessions, local events, and fundraisers within the community. It is a

partnership with local churches and organizations that have vans and are willing to

transport youth to home and community center.

This Department comprises film and photography. UMA of Savannah saw that it was

important to show another avenue of financial freedom by learning the art of film. It is

important to our Film Mentor, A professor at Georgia Southern University, to give back

to the students and engage in a learning environment that the students control and the

teacher directs imagination. UMA of Savannah has proclaimed Intro to Film as a focus

subject whereas, it is here to stay for the long haul. We wish to introduce film to our

students for the booming Film industry that is impacting the City of Savannah.

This department will maintain current record keeping of all financial contributions and

expenditures of UMA. This department will assist in the creation and solidification of

budgets to support all programs and programmatic events or resources. Led by adults,

youth will learn real time financial goals and accomplishments of UMA of Savannah as

financial literacy.

This department will be responsible for raising organizational funds through an array of

means not limited to galas, car washes, cook outs, bake or gourmet chocolate sales,

athletic tournaments, and internal pledges. Our youth will be a part of the process and

applying skills to financial literacy.

This department will be responsible for raising awareness of political issues and

fundamental understanding of program participants through a variety of means which

can include research, attendance of age-appropriate events, a trip to Washington DC, and

continual workshops and sharing of information through analog, electronic, and print

communication.
